George Krevsky Gallery
The George Krevsky Gallery in San Francisco, exhibits work from the 20th Century by American artists showcasing the cultural history of the last century. Contemporary work is also available from artists dwelling in Northern California.
We were lucky enough to attend at the time of the gallery’s popular Art of Baseball exhibition. This is where artists from around North America contribute works that fall around this game. The exhibit represents the the overall drive of the George Krevsky Gallery, which is to allow everyone access to historical fine art whether they are a novice or established collector.

Beginning with the rise of urban scene painting during the Ashcan period, the gallery features the paintings and prints of George Bellows, John Sloan, Theresa Bernstein, and the later Reginald Marsh. The theme of urban imagery and political activism continues with social realists Ben Shahn, Jack Levine, Ruth Gikow, Jennings Tofel, and the Soyer brothers, Raphael, Moses, and Isaac. The gallery shows Depression-era WPA art with Regionalist works both by national leaders, Benton, Curry, and Wood, and also California practitioners of the style such as, John Haley, Erle Loran, and Dorothy Winslade. Also exhibited are Post Armory Show Modernists including Steiglitz circle artists Arthur Dove and John Marin, Precisionists Louis Lozowick and Howard Cook, and the individual styles of Milton Avery and Rockwell Kent. George Krevsky Gallery takes pride in its groundbreaking historical exhibitions and its status as a primary resource for early 20th century American art on the West Coast.
George Krevsky Gallery complements historical works with a select group of Northern California contemporary artists whose work is consistent with the gallery’s direction. These artists, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Walter Kuhlman, Maurice Lapp, Glenna Putt, Mary Robertson, and William Wheeler, all live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. Critically acclaimed New York based John Dobbs and Israeli Michael Kovner round out the stable.
George Krevsky has been in the art business in San Francisco since 1978.
