From the Gerald Peters Gallery website – all credit Gerald Peters Gallery:

In 1972, Gerald Peters founded the Gerald Peters Gallery in Santa Fe. Peters has long been recognized as one the world’s most respected dealers of American art of nineteenth and twentieth centuries with special interests that include classic Western art, paintings of the Taos Society of Artists and the Santa Fe Art Colony, American modernists, American and European Impressionists, the Ash Can School, the New York School, contemporary art, traditional and modern sculpture, naturalism, and vintage and contemporary photography. The Gerald Peters Gallery also represents the estates of Frank Applegate, Jozef Bakos, Cyrus Baldridge, Andrew Dasburg, Marjorie Eaton, Joseph Fleck, E. Martin Hennings, Albert Krehbiel, William Nash, Albert Schmidt, and Max Weber. Located in Santa Fe’s historic district, the gallery’s Spanish pueblo-style adobe building includes 8,500 square feet of indoor exhibition space, a gracious sculpture garden, a large research library, and a bookstore.

In 1992 Gerald Peters expanded the business to include a small gallery in New York. Operating from a townhouse on the Upper East Side, the gallery was initially envisioned to be a private showroom with a small staff, with a very limited exhibition schedule. In 1997, the Gerald Peters Gallery further expanded its presence in New York with the purchase of the townhouse at 24 East 78th Street. This five-story building incorporates two floors of exhibition space, several private viewing rooms, a library, storage facilities and offices. With a complete staff, the gallery currently is able to produce several exhibitions a year, publish catalogues and deal in a wide range of American art including the Hudson River School, American Impressionists and the American Modernists. In addition to the American paintings, drawings and sculpture, the gallery also specializes in modern European masters.

The Reflection Fine Art Gallery in Dallas hosts artists that share a focus of emphasizing color and effect in their work rather than details. The gallery is keen to build a community set around themselves, which makes for a welcoming feeling when approaching to enquire about the art. They even have a blog on their website.

Something which makes the gallery stand out is its commitment to charities and they are keen to provide their facilities free of charge for those that want to host any events there. Some of the charities that partner with the Reflection Fine Art Gallery are Dallas Helping Hands, The Salvation Army, Heroes for Humanity and Make-A-Wish Foundation®.

This Dallas gallery makes for a good evening out with your close friends and there is always something going on on a Friday evening. With its rich interior and classic wooden floors, Reflection Fine Art Gallery sets an intimate scene in which to enjoy the art on display. You will find work from artists including JD Miller, Cynthia Chartier, Gregory Beck, Emanuel Vardi, Sue Yu Petty and E Cerullo.

From the Reflection Fine Art Gallery website – all credit Reflection Fine Art Gallery:

Reflection Fine Art Gallery represents the reflectionist school of art where contemporary artists are setting new standards by advancing the traditional techniques of the classic masters.

Just as the impressionists strove to capture the beauty of the fleeting effects of light, reflectionists strive to capture the fleeting beauty of the moment in its entirety…not just record the impression of physical light, but record the full impact of each experience on mind, body, and spirit.

Each gallery artist is unique but all share an emphasis on color combined with multidimensional effect. Only the artists’ finest work is displayed with many works coming from their personal collections. The current gallery roster includes six artists: JD Miller, Emanuel Vardi, Gregory Beck, Cynthia Chartier, Emil Cerullo and Sue Yu Petty.

The Southwest art gallery in Dallas is one of Texas’ oldest galleries, hosting 19th and 20th Century paintings and sculptures. As well as Southwest art, Contemporary, Western, Impressionist and Traditional art is on display.

The gallery has work available from over 100 artists. Their art consultants are always happy to help and give advice on all the items, which include bronze and antique sculptures. The gallery also offers fine art restoration and specialty framing services. One of their most popular events is the Summer Art Festival event, which includes gallery artists painting and sculpting on-site, as well as jewelry, a painting trunk-show and live music. Great fun! Southwest Gallery offers a warm welcome to its visitors and clientèle alike and we enjoyed our short but stimulating stopover.

An extract from their website on some of the fine artists that are represented by this Dallas gallery – all credit Southwest Gallery:

Bob Rohm
Inspired at an early age by French Impressionism, Bob Rohm takes his love for the simplicity of the Southwest landscape and incorporates the two into paintings of a unique atmospheric reality. Razor sharp contrasts and vivid colors come alive in these bold landscapes of Texas and beyond. The artist will also be signing copies of his new book.

Dalhart Windberg
This legendary Texas artist paints both in a smooth-brush style of the Old Masters and a delightfully textured palette knife style. Embracing a wide variety of subject matter from Texas landscapes, to majestic Grand Canyon scenes to quaint still-lifes, Windberg is a romantic realist whose work embodies a life long devotion to his art.

Harold Kraus
Always refreshing … the world according to Kraus. Enjoy his fascination with color that stays rich and shiny-wet looking, while his compositions ranging from floral still lifes to fluid abstractions speak volumes to the contemporary minded.

Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden art gallery in Dallas offers fine art to collectors and museums as well as organizing exhibitions around its premises. The gallery’s knowledge and professionalism does come at a premium but to those that have a passion for the art available, then this is a non-issue.

A brief history of the gallery from the Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden website – all credit Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden:

In the early spring of 1953, artist Donald Vogel and his wife, Peggy, stood on a dead-end gravel road in far north Dallas County and looked into a heavily wooded six-acre lot. After walking among the trees and along the creek bordering the property, they decided to purchase the land to create a unique environment in which to live and continue their efforts to promote fine arts in Texas.

Knowing that the picture framing business would always be a reliable source of income, they first built a frame shop on the property. The frame shop was soon followed by the construction of a house of Donald Vogel’s own design. This house, which they named Valley House, originally functioned as a gallery, studio, and home for the Vogels. In 1957, the frame shop was expanded and renovated to create a separate gallery space. In 1961, the building program was completed with the construction of a new frame shop and guest quarters.

The Vogel’s philosophy of showing contemporary regional talent alongside internationally recognized artists evolved from their previous collaboration with Betty Blake, formerly Betty McLean. The Betty McLean Gallery, established in 1951 in Preston Center, was one of the first galleries in Texas to exhibit modern art.

In 1959, landscape architect Clarence Roy created an award-winning design for the sculpture garden. The inaugural garden show was a retrospective of Austin sculptor, Charles Umlauf. Other outdoor sculpture shows mounted in the early years were one-person exhibitions of Henry Moore, Sorel Etrog, and David Cargill.

Valley House Gallery gained international recognition for its direct access into the estate of the noted French dealer, Ambroise Vollard. Through this association, the gallery was able to bring major French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings to Dallas including works by Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, and Auguste Renoir.

The gallery became well known for the quality of its exhibitions as well as the catalogues that often accompanied them. In 1962, Valley House Gallery published a catalogue of 54 paintings by George Rouault that were commissioned by Vollard to illustrate André Suarès’ poem, The Passion. Other notable catalogues included The Pont Aven Paintings of Emile Bernard; a retrospective of the paintings of Philadelphia painter Hugh H. Breckenridge; and Surrealism in Art, the first comprehensive survey of this movement in Dallas. Valley House Gallery has also published catalogues on the works of contemporary artists including Barnaby Fitzgerald, Scott Gentling, Gottfried Honegger, Zhang Jingru, Jun Cheng Liu, Loren Mozley, Donna Phipps Stout, Charles Umlauf, and Anne Weary.

In addition to publishing catalogues for their own exhibitions, Valley House Gallery curated and wrote the catalogues for The Amon Carter Museum’s traveling exhibitions of Texas folk painters Clara McDonald Williamson and Velox Ward in the 1960’s. The gallery also sponsored and co-wrote the catalogue for the traveling educational exhibition Connoisseurship and the Intaglio Print in 1990.

Valley House Gallery’s reputation for publishing catalogues and showcasing regional and internationally recognized artists led to an invitation to join The Art Dealers Association of America in 1964. Today the gallery is one of only three ADAA members in Texas and one of only nine members in the south and southwest.

In 1974, Peggy Vogel succumbed to an illness and Kevin Vogel, middle child of three, started work at the gallery to assist his father. In 1978, Cheryl Westgard came to work at Valley House and four years later Kevin and Cheryl were married. Donald married landscape architect Erika Farkac in 1981 and she quickly began to redesign the Valley House Sculpture Garden into one of the most beautiful in Texas. Donald Vogel gradually retired from directing the gallery to focus on his painting. Kevin and Cheryl have been guiding the gallery for over twenty years.

Today, Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden continues its fifty-year tradition of offering the highest quality fine art to collectors and museums. In addition to organizing exhibitions in the gallery, around the garden, and for museums, Valley House Gallery’s participation in art fairs around the country combined with our presence on the internet expand the gallery’s reach to both national and international audiences.

In addition to championing contemporary artists, Valley House Gallery regularly exhibits work by late nineteenth and twentieth century Texas artists including Dorothy Austin, Charles Bowling, Kelly Fearing, L. O. Griffith, Edmund Kinzinger, Hermann Lungkwitz, the Onderdonks, Frank Reaugh, and Everett Spruce. The gallery represents the estates of early Texas artists including Constance Forsyth, Otis Dozier, Edward Eisenlohr, Bertha Landers, William Lester, and Josephine Oliver. Important works by Thomas Hart Benton, Rosa Bonheur, Mary Cassatt, Giorgio de Chirico, George Inness, Berthe Morisot, Pablo Picasso, Camille Pissarro, Maurice Prendergast, and Diego Rivera have been among the gallery’s offerings of 19th and 20th century American and European artists.
